Dunno what you’re already familiar with but most modern prog is either metal (Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Anathema) or kind of metal-adjacent (Tool, Fantomas). I’ll also throw in Mr Bungle and Tub Ring as more niche-y recommendations.
For non-metal the spiritual successor to prog is pop/rock like Radiohead (esp OK Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, In Rainbows, Moon Shaped Pool) or Flaming Lips, Bjork, Midlake, or post rock (GY!BE, Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, God is an Astronaut etc)
