The secret that fantasy fans won’t admit to is that even the shining examples of the genre (Wheel of Time, Game of Thrones, Name of the Wind) are just … not very good books.

I read GoT (havent watched the tv) and i got bored pretty quickly. The french books on the other hand (les rois maudits) was really cool

Liked the show, and heard so much about the books, etc...read the first on a plane and not sure I even finished, they were not good, and until the end, the show was filling in greatly for the shortcomings.

We greatly enjoyed the Michael j Sullivan series never read fantasy as a kid unless you count Bruce coville books

I basically missed fantasy in my teens but started reading Joe Abercrombie's First Law Series a few years back and I've been delighted with what it does to the genre.
