The only reason people like them is that they get into them aged 10-18 and are then too fantasypilled to admit that the writing is bad and the books are mostly Mary-sueism and wish fulfilment (this is me btw, I am too far gone)

The secret that fantasy fans won’t admit to is that even the shining examples of the genre (Wheel of Time, Game of Thrones, Name of the Wind) are just … not very good books.

Not very good books from the classical book writing perspective? Yeah, probably, but it still scratches the itch Some metal music that has big overlap with fantasy lit fans is also not very good music, simplistic riff and lyrics writing but ppl still enjoy it and its fine imo

Of course! It’s fine to enjoy anything! I also listen to a ton of uh … questionable fantasy-themed power metal and I enjoy it despite knowing that it’s terrible
