Couple of thoughts about the value of private data in trading. A general rule is that free, publicly available data < data you (and everyone else) pay for < data you pay for but not many know about < private data.

Good thread. When IHS merged with Markit the reps came to our office telling us about the capabilities of IHS research in the telecom space. They said that they also had a big team in oil & gas, but a big firm in Chicago bought exclusive access.
