Is it because it was in the form of tokens he was given, whose price will crash as soon as you try to sell them? I mean, still good, but absolutely not a billion dollar donation.

Hasn't the price kind of stayed up though? The Shib 'dev' put a spin on it about how its legitamises the project and how Shib is now helping save the world (or something, Idk I just caught snippets). The charities wallet is still showing over a $1b value today, not crashed (yet).

can you imagine the tax write-off though of that Vitalek donation? mark-to-market he just gave away over $1B, even though the act of selling it would make the asset absolutely not worth that irl. tax bodies can't factor in conjecture like that though. absolute king move.

Don't think it works like that does it? The coins are either gift income or capital gains or a mix. Donating them lets him write the whole thing off rather than paying taxes on it, but the write off isn't bigger than the coins and won't help him for any of his other income.
