My only take on high school math is fuck trigonometry — people who get to complex numbers can treat all of trig as a mildly interesting corollary, essentially no one else needs to know it.

To be fair, prior to things like the standardization of roofs and lots of parts of construction, trig and geometry more broadly was an essential part of the job.
Sure but I’m pretty sure that’s not the case now (also, see my comment about carpenters).

I don't disagree at all. I think the reason we still teach math the way we do is because we designed the programs before computers and modern production when tons of jobs needed it and agree with your point. My one concern is that without basics further improvement might slow.
