i do not approve of speculative execution a cpu should simply do what it is told

Emily once ordered an espresso for nineteen mornings straight. On the twentieth morning the server prepped an espresso because “I saw you coming sweetie, got your usual right here”. She flipped a table and demanded a caramel macchatio because *fuck speculative execution*.

Please do more of these, I would learn about computers so much faster if lessons were this entertaining

Sadly the above tweet is the absolute limit of my CPU knowledge (well, I can probably bullshit my way through L1/L2/L3 cache to someone who knows even less about it than I do...)

I think one of the coolest things I did as an undergrad was the 3rd CS class where we were given a cache and a paging table and a memory address all in hex and we’d have to figure out what the value of it was and where in physical memory it was. I used to be a lot smarter
