I always tell people: if you want to make money from your employer (in the form of salary), learn Python. If you want to make money from trading, learn Matlab.
Interesting take. Can understand that employers have a preference for Python (because so much of everything is in Python nowadays) but why would Matlab be an edge over any other easy-to-prototype language?

I am a heavy Matlab user but I never felt like it was a particular advantage. I just use it because I always have and I don’t want to rewrite a few hundred thousand lines of code!

Much easier to integrate different libraries in
@MATLAB, much faster execution, etc. Also, Python statistics, time series, and econometrics libraries are riddled with bugs. See my 3rd book Machine Trading for complete list based on academic papers by UPenn econometricians. -
