Consumer microwave ovens use 2.45 GHz radiation, in theory a higher frequency would heat more evenly because smaller wavelength. Presumably there is a good reason not to do this but I have no idea what it is.

Shouldn't better turntable design theoretically be able to solve this? Haven't thought about it much but it's probably possible to come up with a more optimal way of doing it than just spinning it around in a circle...
