My wife, who is an attorney, worked on a very interesting case. Represented a (big named billionaire) plaintiff, sued one of the big (unnamed) NYC auction houses for fraud. Said auction house auctioned off “Jeffersonian” wines.....wines purportedly grown by Thomas Jefferson.

Each bottle was auctioned off for hundreds of thousands a bottle. The “wine” was likely shit, but the historical provenance gave them their value.

Some bottles are meant to remain closed. Which is exactly the reason they are so attractive to forge I guess

Said billionaire did his own due diligence post auction/purchase. Smelled bullshit.

Found out he was scammed. Then went after the auction house and the seller for fraud.

Apparently fake bullshit wine is a big business. Bc without the resources to prove bullshit, one relies on hopes and prayers. And since no one wants to report getting screwed, the wheel keeps on turning.
