Essentially, objectivism vs. subjectivism?
Allowing for the fact that mathematicians skew left, it seems like mathematical platonists are more likely to be socially conservative/right leaning and formalists are more likely to be socially liberal/left leaning. Is that true or is it just a thing that I think?

Interesting thought. I tend to be a formalist and liberal. I think all my friends are too and they are liberal as well; or at least not conservative.

It’s a little hard to see because basically all mathematicians are some flavor of liberal — luboš motl is an obvious exception who springs to mind

To be false or true it would need to be more precise. I don't think math folks are cluster able except for sandals and socks that one is true.
