One unexpected upside of the culture war is that it makes kids more eager to learn. Kids love forbidden knowledge, and this has been growing rapidly as more ideas get banned.

Your definition of “banned” is useless as there will always be pockets of acceptability where certain topics can be discussed. If you are not able to discuss certain topics for fear of retribution from contemporary powerful institutions (now: tech, prev: religion): banned.

I’d say that a definition of “banned” which allows most people to discuss the topic openly and at length, should they wish to, is not a particularly accurate use of the word “banned”.
