I predict we’ll see a bunch of takes saying this proves ARK is a “scam” or something, meanwhile in the real world cross-investment between funds run by the same firm is not that unusual and can be more efficient than holding the constituents directly

To be clear, the fact that many of the holdings are at best only tangentially related to space exploration is definitely weird. In fact much weirder than the cross-investment into one of their own funds. That’s what I would focus on if I wanted to make fun of ARK!

Normally the main fund would invest in a zero-fee share class of the sub-fund to avoid the extra layer of fees, though I have no idea if that is happening here.

No opinion on whether these are good names to hold! I don’t do single stocks, I’m not some kind of degen. Just pointing out the cross-investing in one of your own funds is not that unusual and definitely not what you would call “self dealing”
