I could believe this since there is much wider variation in ABV and CO2 level for beer than wine, but I still reckon the importance is massively overstated (mostly by companies that want to sell you more glassware)

the co2 means you are drinking more with your nose than with your tongue, late hopping also drastically changes the aromatics, and finally, the yeast is such an important part of the flavor, it needs to be spread into the the nasal passage like when you bite really crunchy bread
