Ive heard it's impossible, so next best thing is to have some kind of simple model Y (future RiskAdj excess ret) ~ B1*Xvar1 + B2*Xvar2, and as your xvars change over time, your expected Y changes, and that tells you whether future edge is increasing or not, I think?
