Someone who knows options help me with this. When I traded variance swaps we marked them to the average of quotes that dealers sent us. For NAV we had an independent third party mark them. Dealers would be marked to model to so I don't know if it's surprising that you would try to have your own model in place. Should be asking questions if those prices start to diverge from dealers or counterparty though.
