Was lucky to have traders on my desk at my old fund. Whenever the algo needed a swap executed or someone to work size on an illiquid EM pair. I sometimes wish I’d learned. But now I realize it’s easier to hire an intern and pay them $40k than spend time learning it myself.https://twitter.com/HF_Trader/status/1362935124711514113 …

Bingo. I am not a “quant” by any means. I know where my talents are. Thankfully I’ve made enough money trading to where I can afford to pay quants to build the tools that I currently use. The money spent was much less than the opportunity cost. Simple decision.

what do you think of discretionary trading?

To do it correctly, a black box system....you have to have an incredible amount of data ($$), expertise ($$) and the infrastructure ($$) to run it. Very expensive done properly. I personally use gray box system. I have quant tools to assist me. Best of both worlds
