has anyone constructed an index that measures countries' 'relevancy' vis a vis each other? Some combo of trade, population, proximity, etc?
Trade-weighted indices are kind of an attempt to do this (eg trade-weighted effective exchange rate)

Thanks! I appreciate it; I was more thinking in terms of just trying to quantify what countries the US media 'should' discuss most vs. what they actually discuss and so less the financial applications, but that does seem like a good input
