This is so fucking lame. If you think someone's work is bad just critique their actual analysis (which happens to be really bad). don't attack a bunch of analysts at essentially a boutique shop because of their background.https://twitter.com/perma_bear/status/1360358382620848133 …

Is anyone else a little sketched out by the backgrounds on some of the @ARKInvest analysts. As someone that works in the fund/asset mgmt industry, you typically see people with real investing experience on their resume. I'll start with the top and work my way down 1/7

so bizarre. i mean.... a firm like that is either going to hire analysts from investment bank, or hire them out of school and train them... and given the nature of their business, you can see why traditional investment bank training is probably not a huge value add 😹

many firms actively don’t like people with “experience”! i’m obviously showing my hand here as someone with bad credentials but i HATE the credentialism discourse so much

ur telling me you wouldn't hire someone for a fat salary just because they happened to be old and have a rudimentary understanding of excel

Who needs even a rudimentary understanding of excel when you have interns to do it

It’s a particularly dumb argument because if I look at my own team (who as a group are as smart and good at their jobs as anyone I can imagine) they would be subject to the same criticisms. We hired them straight from school and taught them. Turns out that works!

we generally can't do that because we are small, and benefit a lot from hiring people who already are fully trained in blocking/tackling, but among larger firms its super common. and not sure there is much ordinary blocking/tackling in the ARK process :)

Hiring from school happens because it relies on the education system to teach them some (general) skills so there's always going to be some kind of discrimination based on 'credentials' but that doesn't necessarily make it bad thing

What kind of things do you look for in those students? Any specific experience outside of academic excellence? Especially for non-targets (if you hired any)

Only specific experience we look for outside academia is programming — not any particular language, just want to see some experience and knowledge of concepts and how to use them in practise. We are traders but 90% of what we do is write code.
