Where are the examples of retail getting crushed on a trade? I’m not saying crowding and squeezes don’t happen, but when it does happen it’s generally big institutional players scrapping with each other in markets that retail don’t touch eg credit indices in 2012 (London whale)
You definitely get stuff like 2008 where poor risk management on Wall St combines with big systemic issues and spills over into the real economy. That’s very bad and we should (and do) regulate against it. But hedge funds trying to manipulate markets or engineer short squeezes...
...on retail? Doesn’t really happen. Mostly because retail is almost never in these kinds of leveraged trades!
Thanks. Do you know of anyone who had modelled where the price on GME was likely to close EOD on Thursday if this doesn’t happen? Ditto Friday? This “intervention” killed the momentum. I day traded it - the longer it went, the clearer it was that something was going to give
