When I was ~14 I wanted to know how the stock market worked so I asked my dad, who explained that companies raise money from investors and then anyone can buy or sell the stock afterward.

I absolutely could not figure out why the price should have any relationship to the company after the IPO, no matter how much my dad tried to explain dividends, fundamentals, buybacks, secondaries etc I just could not get it.

(note that my dad was not in finance and did not really know anything about finance so it's quite likely his attempted explanation was not that great)

Anyway over the next ~10 years I picked up nuggets of info, eventually got a job in finance, worked for ~10 years, and had a pretty good understanding of how all the pieces fitted together and how fundamentals/price were connected.
