why not just buy the bitcoin/ethereum directly with USD like a normal person?

Some exchanges don’t accept fiat currencies to get around know your customer restrictions
i guess the obvious question is why you are buying and selling crypto on an exchange that doesn't want to do kyc

There are some coins not available on exchanges like coinbase. Some cool people use non kyc exchanges to try to avoid capital gains tax
