      Cruz has argued a large number of cases before the SCOTUS. Hawley clerked for the Chief Justice and for a very fine appellate judge. He was also a law professor. These are both serious pedigree lawyers.

      That doesn't make them elite; that makes them well-connected. Elite is @neal_katyal, who actually excels in his profession. I'm sure you've noticed badly written and reasoned opinions by SCOTUS judges as well: Thomas and Scalia being two prime examples. Position /= ability.
