Oh I understand it doesn't impact my license, but no STEP export kills Fusion for a hackerspace/makerspace context where sharing designs is crucial. How much have we all benefited from @grabcad? Soon a whole class of users will no longer be able to upload there

Oh and need a custom 3D CAD part for your open source @ADSKEAGLE PCB design? Too bad, that requires STEP files. (Though I'm also furious about Eagle being sunsetted and turned into a 2nd-class mode of @adskFusion360, so I'll guess I'm switching to @kicad_pcb soon anyway)

They haven't said it explicitly but the writing is on the wall. And when I asked directly, they didn't respond. And no updates to the Eagle app for 4 months. And all their "Eagle" PR points to the Fusion360 mode

Actively defensive Autodesk supporters are basically coming from the same intellectual space as Trump supporters at this point. If you have to rent Autodesk apps for work, I get it, you're trapped now and need to get things done...but they should have zero actual fans right now.

I knew this day would come, but their current special price is reasonable and about half of what I also have to pay for Adobe CS every year. These kind of CAD tools used to cost thousands per year but worth it to me for a few hundred.

Aside from SaaS concerns in general, I'm not certain paid vs free should be part of the same conversation. They didn't have to offer a free option, but they did: why? Now we have proof it was never about the generosity or support of the community they are proud to claim.
