Being in a constant state of fight/ flight raises cortisol levels and causes other effects causing many bad outcomes later in life. These outcomes can range from weight gain/obesity to heart attacks EVEN IF YOU LIVE A HEALTHY LIFE AFTER CHILDHOOD!

So, basically if you’ve had a certain number of ACEs as a child and you were resilient and are successful and healthy and living your best life you are still at higher risk for having a heart attack than someone who had lower or zero ACEs than you.

This is why we can’t fight obesity by simply telling people to eat healthier and exercise THERE’S MORE TO IT! Plus, Friedan Triangle, working only at the individual level (education & clinical interventions) is not enough and will not work.

Anyway, that was my “I love ACEs research” rant. For more information look up the Kaiser Permanente ACEs study, read the book by Dr. Nadine Burke Harris called “The Deepest Well”. And just google “adverse childhood experiences”. Your ACE score might not be what you think!
