When you think about it, their position has more in common with engineering degrees than most PhDs insofar as they apply what is known rather than research new stuff.

This is all due to the shortening of "doctor of medicine" to "doctor" instead of "medicinist" or whatever. People forgot other kinds of doctors existed.
