Ice makers exhaust a tremendous amount of heat which, in Canada, is often used to heat the rink's building. In order to meet the NYS 80x50 goal, we'll need to use less gas. We need to begin a process of managed decapitalization of the gas industry.

An ice rink has to get rid of about 150-200,000 kWh of heat / month. It can heat the arena and other buildings. It's free! They can either use it or pay to get rid of it thru a cooling tower...and then pay more to heat the building and make hot water. Using it eliminates gas use

Using the heat created in making ice in the most efficient manner possible with heat pumps to heat other parts of the complex makes complete sense. Good to see Pete Sikora weighing in!
