Either I'm a genius...or these tools are doing a poor job of simplifying and explaining flexbox. Hint: I'm not a genius.pic.twitter.com/M4lGC2kNcR

Also, if you focus on exploration and creativity, non-drag-free layout systems seems limited at first.

Yes, focus is key. We need more focus on reuse and less focus on unlimited creativity. If you focus on speed, robustness and feature parity with web...flexbox is the ONLY way.

For @subformapp to say "flexbox was too difficult to learn" is just such a ridiculous statement. How do they explain how millions of people learned it, including myself? @webflowapp have successfully implemented it. How do they explain that?

And to be clear, our initial implementation wasn’t wholly different from what I believe Webflow uses today. For a web wysiwyg approach, I think webflow does an awesome job.

So do you think your initial users were somehow less capable of grasping flexbox than most people? You've clearly blamed the technology, by inventing a new one. If Webflow can implement and onboard flexbox, why are you so sure Subform can't?

Our initial users were great! This talk has more background on why we designed new layout semantics: https://www.deconstructconf.com/2017/kevin-lynagh-choosing-features … Our decisions are grounded in problems we're trying to solve. These might be different than other problems that exist. No blame necessary.

Awesome talk, really enjoyed it, thanks for sharing. I just think it's a mistake to force users to learn a new layout engine, rather than adopting an existing, widely-adopted, open-source engine. Anyway, congrats on the launch! I'll take it for a spin soon.
