Now, I do believe we should selectively punish CCP members and in some cases their close kin. For any such, it’s reasonable to require assent to statements condemning the CCP before granting citizenship, maybe even entrance. But a *lot* of China is not a CCP member!

Of course, more exit means less voice which may strengthen the party’s hand *within* China. For folks who dream of regime change or a revolution in China, that’s a bad outcome. For we who respect China’s autonomy and thus see strategic balance as the way forward, it’s fine.

Especially if you believe, as I do, that the CCP’s rule is actually not some galaxy brain genius cannot-fail recipe for forever growth, but actually doomed to disappointing growth and increasingly serious policy failures, letting the CCP have more power may help the US.

When the party is most directly in charge they strangle growth and engaged in showing-their-true-colors acts of inhumanity and violence. Both harm China and reduce the threat it poses to American interests.
