And this on route to being the best selling Zelda. Which just means the formulaic nature (not the art style or the story or anything else) was holding it back.

I think Zelda 2 would have been much better received if they had balanced it more. Also, I hope the next open world Zelda game is less basic than BotW, like adding items and more dungeon gimmicks. It was great as a first open world Zelda game, but they need moe the next time.

I mean, shades of language, right? They're *all* true Zelda games. But Nintendo really define this, and, until BotW, Zelda games had long & involved dungeons, and when you got special weapons, you kept 'em. Zelda-ness aside, losing those 2 qualities seems an outright negative.

I dunno...when we talk about games being Zelda clones, there's generally a pretty distinct and accepted list of qualities that are conveyed. BotW is more like a Zelda-mod of a Skyrim clone. It might still be a Zelda game, but it's not Zelda-ish.
