Ichiban is this perfect mix of massive dumbass, somehow incredibly savvy about the world around him and the people he interacts with, and also so insanely charismatic that people can't help but get attached to him. He's a shounen protagonist except written well.

I do like him better than Kiryu. They are not in direct competition not trying to achieve the same ALTHOUGH Ichiban has 20 years of writing experience since his conception, Kiryu in the other hand, has been soft rebooted a couple times

Plus I think he not being constantly the focal point really makes the narrative more interesting and engaging; he has this party of friends who all have a joke or two, who have stuff to say Shotout to the incredible random conversations while exploring the city, always funny
