I talk a lot of shit about WoW but the fact that they actually made permanent changes in cataclysm was actually pretty neat. Veteran players saw places that had gone unchanged for years suddenly devastated
double edged sword; it was a bit poorly implemented and made literal no sense not even next expansion but by the end of it

I always wanted them to do a 'year' system where you play x content then when you are done you go an npc 'year 2' etc
