7 is a love letter to alot of different jrpgs. a battle system similar to personas with a job system common in Dragon Quest before 11, a story structure is similar to the heroes Journeys Dragon Quest usually has, plus Persona is the most mainstream jrpg with modern-day setting

Plus Persona(and atlus as a whole) is owned by Sega, while Dragon Quest is a Square Enix thing. Of course that doesn't stop Ichiban from having fantasies similar to Dragon Quest while also expressing his love for it. games aren't singularly fashioned.
