I guess this is like the Yakuza/GTA thing where people go in expecting "better pokemon" but then the only real similarity is getting new Yokai? Never played one, but I think the combat looked closer to SMT from what I saw.

I really hated the comparison between the two because i knew it was gonna end badly for yokai watch. The games werent anything alike and had very different game mechanics

Honestly I hate any comparison between Pokemon and any other series that's about fighting with Monsters. They all are usually uniquely different from each other.

Now, I'm a fan of the series, and even played all the way through 4. I genuinely think, at least in the west, the anime shot the series in the foot. It was nothing like the games and convinced a lot of older potential players that it was "just for kids". (1/2)

The new spinoff series thing feels like it's going down that same road, but maybe the game they're making with it could be different. With 4, it was way more adult/teen oriented, though I'm a bit nervous that the next game could be more like the anime.
