Youtube, in their effort to make the platform worse each day, has decided to axe the captions feature which helped deaf and no speakers of a language enjoy videos. Awesome stuff as always

Hold on, a caption subscription? As in “you have to pay for captions”?
-
From what I've seen: they charge you a fee for every minute, so if you were to upload a 40 minute-long video and you have a diverse European audience, that while continent of subtitles could cost over a thousand dollars.

this blows hard, but at least it also has given me drive to hard sub all my videos containing dialogue. did it once for jokey dark souls video because i follow some youtubers who take accessibility stuff seriously & go the effort to subtitle their work to make it more accessible

there is a reason for this, and TBH it falls mostly on creators for not policing their own content, but a large amount of people we're abusing captions to make them say all kinds of crazy things on big youtubers channels.

this video explains in quickly to understand why, and this is happens to HUNDREDS OF BIG CHANNELS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19ASVeUQkMk …
