Youtube, in their effort to make the platform worse each day, has decided to axe the captions feature which helped deaf and no speakers of a language enjoy videos. Awesome stuff as always

“Low usage” my ass though. It’s like when they pulled annotations despite those being really important too.
-
You can always count on Youtube to kill every good feature they have.

Low usage huh? Well shit, I guess it makes no financial sense to cater to a niche demographic. Better go deaf with millions so there's a reason to watch videos with the caption settings. Surely they'll listen for once.

It literally costs nothing to HAVE the feature though?

Im so confused by this. Like does it cost them money to keep it? I dont see any other reason to get rid of it

I'm a software engineer and the answer is that if they're cutting it, most likely it does. Existing features can sometimes require reworks, refactors, or maintenance, especially when trying to get them to play nice with new features. That means labor costs for YouTube.

how come there is still no other platform that can go against youtube,I mean, they go away with so much shitty behaviour and lose basically nothing because there is no alternative...

You just answered your own question. Monopolies are basically impossible to break without government intervention

What’s funny about that is even if captions aren’t being made too often, so many people use them every day. Literally not low usage.
