There's a lot of charm that's just lost when it's translated to 3D animation. 3D can equally be as impressive as 2D alone, but a side by side comparison with the original 2D source can amplify the degradation of the media.

it's not the technique that makes it look good or bad, it's the way you use it, and your view. If you animate in 3D the same way you do in 2D (aka one drawing/object per frame) it can give off interesting results, same if you animate 2D like 3D is normally animated (with puppets)
