Jesus, that’s some major knowledge...and something I wish they’d explain better in the games.
A thing that got lost when Ace Attorney got localized is that law in Japan is stronger than in the US. Defense Attorneys are usually expected to fail most of the cases and only win like 2 (with luck) on their entire careers. Knowing that, the cases being so STRONG make sense

Does the first game not specifically mention the 99% convictions? I feel like I learned about it from those games.

TBF the 99% conviction rate is often taken out of context. That only applies to indictments which prosecutors only go for if they’re confident they can get a guilty. Most people who are arrested get let go due to lack of evidence or for only doing minor crimes.

I think it's like that in the US, too, just that TV makes it seem like the opposite because all you get are stories of ppl being framed or wrongly accused/etc. because they're more interesting.

That's just it: media interference tends to mess with court hearings, something that has been a longstanding problem since the 1950's. Now with tabloids ever being so present, it doesn't help since an attorney could spin the story to the defendant's favor, even WITH evidence.

It got me intrigued on how JPN law systems vary compared to U.S ones. Most significantly Burden of proof being on the defense, not prosecution
