  2. This doesn't even make logical sense. Nobody was saying, you have to wear a yellow star if you want to go to the grocery store. They forced us to wear stars to identify us as less than human, not allowed to participate in society at large.

Dear high schools and universities that don't consider Linguistics to be important or interesting enough to students, Here's a recent HS grad who took my basic linguistics elective and has looked for a way to study it ever since, even if that means transferring her credits.

  5. : No eviction in . The Supreme Court undid decades of legal mumbo-jumbo including the settler orgs' ownership claims & refers the sides back to 1980s-era questions re:land ownership. So no evictions in the foreseeable future & ongoing battles over title.

  7. I don't care what hours my employees work. If they want to start late on Monday to ease the transition from the weekend and get a little extra me-time in, that's cool. I care that they get their work done. A strict 9-5 is about control, not productivity.

Nick was the least interesting member of the band. Sorry. They wouldn’t have been much without Roger, true, but for me they were at their best when Syd and Rick were doing their thing. (Sorry Dave)

  12. Blue Ridge, founded by William Boeing, was named for its location overlooking Puget Sound. It's another neighborhood that was whites-only at its founding. Today it's 81% white, 12% Asian… and just 0.5% Black.

  13. The beach in question is a short one along Puget Sound, across the BNSF Railway tracks from NW Esplanade. The private beach residents have access to is longer and further to the southwest.

  17. It's unclear what Broadmoor Drive E and the Broadmoor Golf Club are named after. It was the only gated neighborhood ever to be established within Seattle city limits (Sand Point Country Club wasn't annexed until the 1950s).

  19. This street was named in 1889 for the steamer Latona, used to ferry people across Lake Union to and from what is now Northlake. Paul Dorpat quotes Sophie Frye Bass as saying the boat itself was named for the goddess Latona, mother of Apollo and Artemis.
