Say what you will about the English but they’ve made great strides in synonyms for pervert. Nonce, sex pest, so on. Then again they would have had to.

Haven’t been in Central Square in a couple years and the defenses against encroaching Kendall Square completely eroded. I should’ve done more.

I ride the subway a lot. Not a week goes by that a mentally ill person doesn't get on and terrorize the entire car—especially women, especially Asians. Usually the men just sit there and pretend it's not happening. It's a disgrace that working New Yorkers have to live like this.

The most jarring class divide? In America? More jarring than homeless people and the subway riders who brutalize them for example? More jarring than the shop floor workers and their bosses? More jarring than millionaire legislators allowing 14 year olds to work? If u say so lee!

The percentage of high profile media and political voices who angrily sneer at concerns around violent crime who grew up in extreme privilege is off the charts. It's really the most jarring class divide.

EPISODE 80: Today I'm joined by @lukeoneil47, author of A Creature Wanting Form, to talk about THE BIG LEBOWSKI (and the soundtrack). In accordance with what we think Donny's dying wishes might well have been, you should give it a listen at the link below buzzsprout.com/1840875

Luke always kills it, but i found it particularly therapeutic to read his words on the subway murder because it seems to externalise at least some of what i'm feeling

Again, there are explanations for some outlets to play ball and defer to cop-adjacent stuff, there aren't any good explanations for all of them to do so at the same time.

There are plenty of explanations for why certain outlets would try to protect him or whatever, and especially for similar local stories, but not for why every single one would for the main national story of the week.

Has anyone proffered a reasonable explanation for why the media didn't report the stranglers name? Please assume I am aware of how media is subservient to power and love the cops and hate the homeless and so forth.
