I admire golang's design goals so much, but I find its final design just infuriating.

I think Go's goals can be done right. The problem with languages is that few get production-hardened, so the space is poorly characterized.

Seriously: google "golang deduplicate slice". Read a hundred responses, each showing a different ten-line function. Again, Ruby: `xs.uniq`.

Also, in defense of Go, part of the philosophy is not hiding expensive operations (like uniq) behind short names.
