We need a new mechanical calculator. Two, actually: one that computes hashes, and one that computes signatures. I want to be able to perform those operations without ever trusting a CPU.

What do you think a mechanical calculator is?

A device that performs arithmetic via mechanical action rather than electricity, I suppose. Hashing/signing is much more complicated than e.g. multiplying, but ultimately it's just lots of arithmetic.
