I think this applies to any kind of friendly competition. Arguments like that aren’t about *winning* or dominating, so much as leaving some new knowledge behind for them to think about. Teachable moments...
If you always "win" arguments, eventually people will decide that arguing is pointless and just route around you instead. Arguing is an *iterated* social game, and you have to lose or compromise sometimes if you want others to keep playing with you.
