("Equivalent" means if you fix a typo, I'll fix a typo; if you add a test, I'll add a test; if you optimize a function, I'll optimize a function. The nice thing about this is that there's no "language barrier" asymmetry: contributions will occur precisely where skills overlap.)

I think it could be even easier than that. When I contribute a PR, I don't want a PR in return. I just want a timely response (<1 business day is ideal, <2 business days is acceptable). I've found this to be disappointingly rare.

If I find a project I'm interested in contributing to, I'll often start with a trivial PR like a typo fix just to test their response time. If they're slow with that, it dissuades me from contributing something more substantial.
