Yeah so apparently if your wisdom teeth aren't impacted, you can get them pulled just like any other tooth, no surgery required. My dentist claimed he could do it in 5 mins. Still takes a day or two to heal, but you're not laid out for a week.
"Get them out while you're young" means "pay $$$ to have them surgically extracted before they've had a chance to erupt." Whereas if you postpone, there's a decent chance they'll erupt without major complications, and then you can just have them pulled.

But I think most people assume (like I did) that wisdom tooth extraction *always* requires surgery. If you Google "wisdom tooth extraction," you'll get the same impression: most articles focus exclusively on surgical extraction, or gloss over the distinction.

So if you still have your wisdom teeth, don't get scared into removing them prophylactically. *Definitely* don't get them all removed at the same time. You'll be much better off if you wait until they start causing problems.
