Your product has a marketing email list. It also sends transactional emails, including delayed reminders for things that users will want to do (but which aren't marketing emails). These email types are sent via different providers. How do you sync unsubscribe lists between them?

I guess it theoretically could be two separate types of unsubscribe. But I'm very afraid of someone hitting "unsubscribe" on a marketing email, then getting a delayed transactional email a few days later and being mad. But I also don't want to be in the sync business.

Fun story: OkCupid deleted my account after a period of activity, and when I contacted support, they said they didn't send me a warning email because I had unsubscribed from all email communication! Now all the earliest messages between my SO and I are gone.

I'm not sure what the moral is here. Maybe "Don't let users unsubscribe from emails regarding their data being deleted or their card being charged."
