    Composing diverse teams and groups easily becomes second-shift work for URMs in your company. When we ask folks to participate, we become ethically obligated to ensure this work is shifted into the first-shift and recognized in performance reviews, promotions, etc.

    Also, there are a lot of variations on "found their people online": not just pure social, but also blended with more traditional notions of productivity: Wikipedia, Linux kernel, Arxiv, Kickstarter, Patreon, etc.

    How many of us wouldn't even be here if we hadn't found our people online? The facists found their people too. Let's deal with that. But don't forget the crucial importance of that mechanism to the formation of our youngest 2 (and a half) generations.

    I wonder when AT&T-like regulated pricing + Carterfone-style access neutrality + speech neutrality will enter the Overton window for Twitter+FB's speech regulation problems.

    would you pay 99¢ a month for a social media network that had all your friends, but no ads or tracking?
