STEM w/o the humanities is just a raytheon training program
1/ You assume people with different values than you are lacking some of your education, but that's reversing cause and effect. More likely is that you were a humanities major because that's the kind of person you already were.

2/ Is it any shock that people drawn to machines and abstract systems may be less people-focused in their value system? BTW, "The Righteous Mind" discusses whether the study of ethics as an academic discipline leads to ethical behavior; the answer is a clear no.
