Our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines face daily challenges that we will never encounter. Every day they report for work, they put themselves at risk. And they do it for all for us. Thank you to every man and woman who has worn a uniform. Happy Veterans Day!

The Senate and House speakers control the 2nd floor of the Capitol and have given media OK to be here. An executive branch employee tried to tell me “Department of General Services” controls the area, which is nonsense. The speakers are apparently intervening to ensure access.

The left will move on to the next figure or monument and demand that we again kneel at the altar of political correctness. While the governor and the constitutional officers did not stand with me today, I hope they will next time. Because more fights are coming.

The woke mob means ultimately to uproot and discard not just Southern symbols, but American heroes and history as well. This is not the end. It is the beginning.

Without historical context, we would have no Tennessee heroes, only villains. No Christian saints, only sinners. The left-wing activists who are pushing an anti-American, anti-history agenda here in Tennessee and across the nation will not stop with Nathan Bedford Forrest.

His life eventually followed a redemptive arc which I hope is outlined in detail in our state museum. No figure honored on the capitol grounds or across the state could stand up to modern scrutiny.

My position on the bust of Nathan Bedford Forrest has been clear and consistent over a number of years. I believe that context is needed, but not removal. No one is arguing that Forrest is not a problematic figure. He is. But there is more to his story.

What we have seen is a shift in public relations, not mission. Childhood vaccinations have not been halted and are still very much encouraged in Tennessee.

Some legislators had an issue with some marketing materials that seemed to be discouraging parental involvement in decisions regarding vaccines. That was never the intent and the Department of Health is revising their marketing strategies.

As a pharmacist, I believe vaccines should be highly encouraged for those who don’t have a philosophical or religious objection or a legitimate medical issue. The remains focused on making sure vaccines are available and accessible to those who need or want them.
