oh hey everyone, I've been offline for five days while my in-laws visited. I sure hope nothing squarely at the intersection of balloons, surveillance technology, geopolitics, and high-end aircraft happened on my beat while I was away.
A little sunshine to kick off this dreary day, and a bit of a unique perspective. The railing on the West End Bridge, complete with little ice pillars, perfectly frames #Pittsburgh as the sun emerges from behind a building. I love how the city looks like a miniature set.
I've found that 99 times out of 100, the thing "no one is talking about" is all over my feed, with half of the talk about how no one is talking about it.
we give our cat progressively larger boxes to lounge in, so that he has the illusion that he's really successful at his cat tasks and is upwardly mobile as a result. this big guy is living the dream and moving on up to a lifestyle his cat parents couldn't even imagine!

Sometimes a little luck can go a long way. The clouds cleared just in time from behind #Pittsburgh this morning to allow for the shot that I hoped for, an image of the moon and PPG Place from a spot I've never captured it from before. Made for a really fun view to capture.
Some really dark stuff in the official Punxsutawney Phil FAQ: He is an immortal because he sips the "elixir of life" every summer, but his "wife" Phyllis "doesn’t receive the Elixir of Life so she will not live forever like Phil." https://groundhog.org/phil-faq
Two people have noted that any court-appointed or public defender would do this. I'm glad to hear it but if you wanna be #3 or higher it would be awesome if you also had examples, citations, and/or links.
the stage in between when a suburb gets a mass-market casual dining establishment and an artisanal brewery with a bicycle parking lot is known as the Cheesecake Refractory Period
real conversation i just witnessed whie ringing up two guys and their new puppy a dog collar

this pretty trans woman just came into the coffee shop and ordered a mocha, as I was making it the chocolate syrup wouldnt squirt out and i was just pumping the syrup over and over and her friend said “having performance anxiety?” And my soul left my body
Still have a bunch of foggy images from a few weeks ago in #Pittsburgh to share, including this one along the North Shore. I kinda like how the riverwalk disappears into the fog as it leads you into the scene while the Ft. Duquesne Bridge frames the city. Eerie but fun view.
Elderly woman with a cane & huge backpack so helped her across a busy street while she cheerfully informed me her pooch had died & she wanted to get to his favourite park to chuck out 500 tennis balls for the other dogs in his memory & I was like humans are crazy in the best way
Pretty cool scene in #Pittsburgh this morning, as a huge 22º halo was visible behind the city from the North Shore. I took advantage of a puddle in the water steps to capture its reflection as well, making it encircle half of downtown. Always love finding views like this.

While researching for our exclusive on President Jimmy Carter returning classified documents, we came upon a 1984 AP article about how a 13-year-old girl ended up with Carter's classified documents and brought them to her Pittsburgh school's show and tell https://apnews.com/article/politics-united-states-government-district-of-columbia-classified-documents-ronald-reagan-50e221ea424392b3582cd0d305cab0ee…
Y’all realize that the National Archives has had flat staffing levels for like 30 years right? Every presidential administration becomes excessively more difficult for records management than the last but there aren’t enough resources to handle it
